Community Involvement

Kevin Wichman doesn’t believe just in giving back. He believes in going forward.  His guiding mission focuses on underserved individuals throughout Greater Miami and South Florida and Greater Kansas City, who deserve the same opportunity for justice and fairness in the complex judicial system.

He currently assists in numerous mock trials for high school, college, and law school students in both areas of Miami and Kansas City and helps guide the students in their legal path acting as a mentor and judge in competitions.

Wichman Law Firm assists annually in the months of October through December in efforts to bring joy and gifts to impoverished children throughout the world, with their office acting as a distribution center for Box of Joy Christmas gifts for children of all ages and works with Cross Catholic Outreach, headquartered in South Florida, with these efforts.

In the past, Mr. Wichman served for many years as Director of the Legal Clinic at the rapidly growing Church in the North Kansas City. He provided pro bono service on a wide range of legal issues and continues to do the same for numerous callers in Kansas City, Miami and South Florida.

Kevin has served as a Guardian ad-litem – a court-appointed attorney for at-risk minor children – in Jackson County, Missouri and also assist in pro bono work representing other family members related to these matters when needed by the Court.  He has successfully investigated and advocated in court for minor children and their parents in cases of actual or alleged child abuse and child neglect.

He participates regularly in lawyer outreach media to help viewers understand criminal defense, restraining orders, traffic tickets, and personal injury law in their everyday lives through regular appearances on local tv news stations and in newspapers.  While in law school, he was a popular weekly spokesman on a Michigan radio show, where he drew many listeners because of his ability to explain legal terms clearly and simply. He has been an ‘Ask-the-Lawyer’ volunteer with the Kansas City Metropolitan Bar Association (KCMBA) and with the Fox News affiliate.

Kevin believes strongly that attorneys should reach out to youth to show the positive role of the justice system in our society.

Kevin remains involved with the many Florida, Kansas, and Missouri legal associations and organizations as a member of the practice section for Criminal Defense and Personal Injury. He stays current on trends and issues in the Florida, Kansas, and Missouri laws and courts as an active member of parallel practice sections for the Florida Association of Criminal Defense Attorneys – Miami Chapter, Miami Dade Trial Lawyers Association, Kansas Association for Justice (formerly the Kansas Trial Lawyer Association) and Missouri Association of Trial Attorneys.

Kevin’s love of the law is complemented by his love of sports and even more community involvement.  A disciplined and competitive athlete, Kevin played soccer at the elite premier level in Johnson County throughout his youth, at Bishop Miege and at K-State.  Kevin continued on his passion for the sport as Head Soccer Coach for Turner High School in Kansas City, KS where he coached and mentored the Varsity and Junior Varsity teams compromised of around 40 high school students in the sport and in general life direction and advice.  He continues to play in adult leagues for fitness, fun, and to meet new people in the metros for Miami and Kansas City when in each area.
