Frequently Asked Questions

Kansas City Criminal Defense FAQ

How long will my case take?

Because each criminal case or traffic violation can brings many factors as to bringing about a resolution, an exact answer is not possible.  Generally speaking, a traffic ticket can be resolved in one court appearance, but often requires a few, and could even last a year or more.  Criminal cases could be the same time frame, however, usually last a few months to one year.  If the case is high profile or very serious then six months to eighteen months is realistic.

How can I reach you if I have a question?

Wichman Law Firm LLC is available twenty-four hours a day.  You can email us, or call directly. If we are in court or involved with another client, we will return the call promptly, no matter the time of day or day of the week. We stand by our commitment to be in touch whenever you need us.

If I hire you, do I have to pay you anything up front?

Yes. After the initial free consultation, if you decide to hire us, then an immediate retainer will be required to secure our services, the amount of which to be determined at the consultation.  If you choose our firm, our contract together will outline the legal fees for your particular case and any incidental costs for evidence, transcripts, or expert witnesses should they be anticipated as necessary.  We will also inform you of other administrative or court expenses that may likely occur.

What is a free consultation?

A consultation is a meeting with the attorney, in which you will have the opportunity to discuss your situation without any cost to you.  We will sit down and put together a plan of action on how to best deal with your matter legally.  You can ask us any questions during that time and decide if you feel comfortable with our legal approach and our manner.  If so, we will put together a representation agreement covering the terms and scope of the representation and after receipt of a retainer Wichman Law Firm will immediately get to work on your case.

I’ve never needed an attorney before. What can I expect?

You can expect an empathetic and ready response from a skilled attorney who will carefully listen to you.  There's no charge for the initial consultation for traffic and criminal matters, so you can take the time to explain what happened and what kind of result you are looking to achieve.  We're here to help you understand the legal system and to explain options so you can decide the next step.
